Representing one of California’s largest privately-held companies, Crockett & Associates successfully obtained the condemnation and demolition of neighboring properties in the City of West Hollywood owned by the late world-renowned designer Max Azria in a prominent public and private nuisance case. The properties were an eyesore, with dilapidated buildings that were frequented by individuals engaged in criminal activity, depressing surrounding property values. After several failed negotiations involving the city, neighbors and Azria failed, Crockett & Associates sued for an injunction of the nuisance and invoked the private attorney general statute. Collaborating with the City, Crockett & Associates facilitated an expedited condemnation procedure that not only eliminated the nuisance at the properties, but paved the way for Azria to receive permit approvals for new structures on the sites that were consistent with community values and would enhance neighboring property values. The Defendants paid Crockett & Associates’ attorney’s fees as a result of the litigation resolution.
